A dicey morning weather wise. I heard rain in the night, but we awoke to overcast, cool and threatening skies.

Our plan was to have an easy day today, but not a total lay day. We set out from our hotel in confidence, down a steep hill, only to find after we crossed the Wye river that we were going in the wrong direction. Dammit !!

At one point we felt like this!!!!!!

Our target was Tintern Abbey where we were to meet Alain and Anne who were driving over from Reading to have lunch with us.

It was an easy ride, once we found the correct route, our rendezvous happened with no problems and we spent a lovely hour or two exploring the amazing Cistercian ruins. Once again when I encounter 'white monks ', so called because their habits were of undyed wool, and learn of their monastic life, I am so grateful that i live with central heating, double glazing and the like, to say nothing of dishwashers and flushing loos.

Anne and Alain provided a wonderful lunch, - quiche, cheddar cheese and bread, grapes, elderberry cordial,  and 'standby brownies', – scrumptious. All of this had to be consumed in the car in the end, because of the cold and the rain, but it was delicious.

Our WONDERFUL friends, Anne and Alain --THANKYOU!!!!!

Eventually, we had to get on our bikes again.

We had a leisurely run for a couple of miles and then a totally horrendous hill that went on for miles - lovely lane, horrible hill . But we eventually made it to just out of Colefordd, near the Forest of Dean. Lovely country hotel, the Lambsquay Country House Hotel and we booked it at about 3.15 pm. What bliss, what joy, to have all that time to relax, .........dinner here, and brekky tomorrow. Heaven!!

The view out the back of the hotel.
But it is raining as I write this!!!!!!!!

  1. Hi Linley - I forgot to tell you that I was talking to the boys in the house, telling them about your trip and how we were meeting up with you. One of them said solemnly "Matron, I think you need to take them some tuck"!!
