Day 16 : EDINBURGH to AUCHERARDER : Biking Bonnie Scotland at Last

EDINBURGH to AUCHERARDER: Biking Bonnie Scotland at Last

Edinburgh was sparkling when we rode out this morning. Crystal clear skies, nippy, and the whole town on its way to work. It does look quite prosperous, although the way it is discombobulated by the construction of a new tram system makes it difficult to get around in the downtown area,.

JST did a brilliant navigating job, until we got on a wonderful bike path, only to realize 2.5 miles in that we were going in the wrong direction, so that took up a few miles of effort.

Correction made, we had a lovely time making our way to the Forth Bridge, where we found super organized signage for bikes, unlike the Severn Bridge, and so we crossed.  By now it was getting a bit windy, and this was to continue for the rest of the day,

The countryside was initially gentle farming, with beef and sheep mixed with a lot of cropping - wheat etc, and so much hay. Eventually we climbed up to some more barren countryside, and then a long down to Glen Eagles - actually biking through the links, and right past the entrance.

                                              Looking down towards Glen Eagles

We made our way to Aucherarder, and the cheerful Parsonage B and B.   A beer at the pub, and dinner at the Indian restaurant next door.

The wind this afternoon was really awful. It felt as though one were biking up a steep hill, no matter what the terrain. The terrain was, in fact, perfect for biking, if conditions had been more ideal

Another lunch in another wheat field

The weather tomorrow looks pretty good, and the longer range forecast looks as though, with luck, we may just slide through a couple of weather systems, and have mostly good conditions through the weekend.
