Admaston - Crudgington - Market Drayton - LONGSLOW- Nantwich - Middlewich
( After yesterday's post, this morning Alain sent me a list of "interesting " place names we might encounter today. He especially suggested avoiding Longslow, but lo had behold, we went right by, and, to tell you the truth, did not know til we saw the sign. This can happen - places are named on signposts, and then there is virtually nothing there when you go looking . )

The luxurious Dovecote Grange
So today we thought we had died and gone to biker heaven. Lovely still, cool, fine day. Off we went into the Shropshire countryside, which turned out to be almost flat, while our route took us away from busy roads and along lovely, lovely lanes. Sounds of harvesting everywhere, as haymaking and baling continues .
Note gentle gradients.
Biked over a couple of canals, neither of which had bikeable tow paths. Some lovely brickwork on the canal bridges, and some peaceful looking boat traffic
Can you see JST disappearing round the corner
All along the way, some gorgeous huge old oak trees, usually singles, right on the road, with their gnarled roots quite often exposed in the bank.
Lunch today was in a cornfield - crackers and cheese, an orange, and half a snickers bar ( thanks Alain and Anne ), followed by a snooze.
We passed into Cheshire and it remained flat. When we got to Middlewich we met a guy who told us about the Cheshire Plains - who knew, but I love them, and long may they continue
We were pleased with our mileage today, and also that we finished by 4 pm, which really gives us time to relax and recover, which does not happen if you arrive later. We met a guy today who aims to finish in 12 days - he has to average over 80 miles a day, and he is finding it very tough, sometimes arriving at his B and B at 8 pm. He has everything pre - booked, which we deliberately have not done because of the pressure to get to a particular destination.
So far so good, but tonight we are in the third pub we tried. The first one had the sign below on the bar, and I spent a good five minutes yelling, as instructed, upstairs and down, with no results, and I even had time to take the photo. The next one was full ( of Australians, it turns out, ) , and we got the last bed here.
cheshire cheese, I presume?
